SCCPI NotesDear SCCPI members, Summer used to be a time to slow down, go fishing and take vacations, but summers now seem full and busy, at least for the SCCPI office. In between our summer vacations, SCCPI is hosting the Fourth Annual Promoting Excellence in Pain and Palliative Care for Social Workers and, to mark September as “Pain Awareness Month”, preparing for the 18th Annual Pain Resource Nurse Course on September 2-4. Both courses are held at the City of Hope in Duarte, California. Additionally, over the summer, the SCCPI board has revised and updated its Cancer Pain Management Reference Card. It is a laminated card that can be folded and kept in the pocket for quick reference. We plan to have it available in September to support September 2009 Pain Awareness Month activities. Check the SCCPI website where you can download the card for free or order the laminated card. SCCPI also extends a warm welcomes to our new board members, Dr. Earl Quijada from Loma Linda University Health Care Center for Pain Management in Loma Linda, CA and Dr. Peter White of Euclid Interventional Pain Management in Upland, CA. Dr. Quijada and Dr. White bring new energy, knowledge and commitment to SCCPI’s mission to promote optimum pain relief for all people with cancer and other pain conditions. Many SCCPI members have enjoyed the SCCPI Gala where pain management professionals and colleagues have been recognized for their excellence in pain management. Mark your calendars, the next SCCPI Gala will be in the fall of 2010. We are skipping 2009 as we now plan to host the GALA every other year. Let SCCPI know if you are planning events for September 2009 Pain Awareness Month. These can be posted on the SCCPI website calendar. Have a great summer!
